Hospitality & Chocolate Bunnies

This year the Easter Bunny skipped my house… no baskets, fake grass, jelly beans, peeps, chocolate bunnies - nothing. Which was fine. We went to a lovely brunch and had a beautiful day outside in the sunshine. But an interesting thing happened last week.
A friend was in town and she was staying with friends in Georgetown. She invited us to swing by late in the afternoon, which we did and were a bit embarrassed when we showed up just as they were all sitting down to eat dinner. They graciously invited us to join in their beautiful outdoor setting (and wouldn’t take no for an answer) and we all quickly joined in an energetic conversation that took us into the evening. As it cooled off outside, they ushered us into the living room where there was a cozy fire in the fireplace, wine and delicious snacks: crusty french bread, cheese, chocolates - and to our delight, fancy peeps and fresh made rice krispy treats (which neither of us had had in years!). We snacked, sipped and talked for hours.
This couple shared with us their beautiful home, stories about their lives, businesses and about their adorable 5 year old daughter and her twin sister whom had died a couple of years ago. It is an openness and hospitality oft forgotten - but so appreciated when experienced.
Once back at home, we chatted about these new friends for a while and then noticed something in my purse - a chocolate bunny had been slipped in when no one was looking. Not only did they leave us with memories of a lovely evening, but with a sweet gift of pure fun, generosity and kindness. Truly an evening to be thankful for.
