To-Do Item #1: Appreciate

Guest post by Julia Osovskaya
I was thinking the other day how much busier I’d been lately, much busier than even just 3 months ago and much busier than I could’ve imagined myself being at this point. I feel like I’m up to everything all at once all of a sudden. But life happens and, mostly, each thing that calls for my time and attention does so because of my own choice.
The thing I was wondering about though was how come I managed to get things done while still being a good friend. Somehow I still keep in touch with everyone, return calls, messages, emails and even find the time to hang out with those dear to my heart. Understanding came all on its own and I am more than willing to share the “secret”.
It’s easy, really. The thing is, I don’t put friends in the “fun” or “something to do after work” category. Devoting time, talking, replying to questions or requests, checking on friends and taking the time to go out together are all the things on my mental “to-do” list along with all of the work matters, household duties and personal responsibilities. And I don’t go to bed until I’ve done the best I could about checking things off my list.
I still prioritize everything, of course. There are still deadlines for some of the things, and something still gets put off. But I realize that without play there can’t be much of a work, and if you have no one to share the good things with no work accomplishments really matter. I owe a lot to people who take the time to believe in me and to those who care to cheer me up and make me smile. And when you appreciate, you find the time.
